Overview

Protecting Children from Online Exploitation and Human Trafficking

New Mexico Attorney General and Attorney General Alliance Chair Raúl Torrez is leading the AGA Chair’s Initiative for 2026: Protecting Children from Online Exploitation and Human Trafficking. The initiative reflects a bipartisan, collaborative commitment by state attorneys general to confront the growing threats facing children in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

Children today face evolving risks, including online sexual exploitation, technology-facilitated abuse, and human trafficking. Addressing these threats requires both vigilance and innovation, as well as sustained cooperation across jurisdictions and sectors.

The initiative focuses on strengthening prevention efforts, advancing coordinated enforcement strategies, and supporting victims and survivors. It recognizes that protecting children requires close collaboration among attorneys general, law enforcement, advocates, educators, public-private sector stakeholders, and community partners.

Key Areas of Focus

-Advancing coordinated strategies among attorneys general and key partners to combat online exploitation and child trafficking.

-Strengthening prevention through education, awareness, and the promotion of safer digital practices for children, parents, and caregivers.

-Promoting policies and enforcement approaches that reinforce accountability, disrupt criminal networks, and adapt to evolving threats.

-Supporting long-term solutions that prioritize the safety, recovery, and well-being of children and families impacted by exploitation and trafficking.
