In an era of rapidly evolving digital threats, the “Cyber Awareness: Addressing Digital Threats at Home and Abroad” Initiative, led by Attorney General Treg Taylor, focuses on equipping State Attorneys General with the tools and strategies needed to address the multifaceted challenges of cybersecurity. From protecting critical infrastructure to enhancing consumer protection, this initiative aims to empower AGs to act decisively in the face of ever-changing cyber risks.

The initiative addresses key areas, including:

Countering Nation-State Cyber Threats – Tackling sophisticated cyber attacks originating from hostile nation-states that threaten national security and public safety.

Consumer Protection in a Digital Age – Strengthening AGs’ ability to enforce data privacy laws, combat online scams, and protect consumers from the growing landscape of cyber fraud.

Securing Critical Infrastructure – Exploring strategies to safeguard essential services, including energy grids, healthcare systems, and communication networks, from cyber intrusions.

Navigating Emerging Technologies – Addressing the ethical and regulatory implications of artificial intelligence and other rapidly advancing technologies to ensure their responsible development and use.

A key highlight of the Initiative is a national convening in Alaska from August 25-27, 2025. This event will bring together Attorneys General, industry experts, and policymakers to share insights and develop collaborative solutions to cybersecurity challenges. Through discussions and partnerships, the Initiative will foster a comprehensive approach to strengthening digital defenses across the nation.

The Initiative also recognizes that the role of State Attorneys General is not static. As cybersecurity challenges grow more complex, this effort seeks to examine how their duties, jurisdictions, and partnerships will continue to evolve, ensuring that AGs remain at the forefront.

“As technology evolves, so do the threats to our citizens and infrastructure,” said Attorney General Taylor. “The Cyber Awareness Initiative is about equipping Attorneys General with the resources and partnerships they need to be effective defenders against these growing challenges. By working collaboratively, we can strengthen our frontline defenses and ensure a safer, more secure future for all.”

By fostering collaboration and innovation, this initiative provides Attorneys General with the knowledge and tools to stay ahead of emerging cyber threats, ensuring robust protections for individuals, communities, and critical systems alike.
